good for him, he's a good guy. I always expected Johnson to get it, but apparently he was never really cut out for that.

It surprises me how well he did last year... he just came out of nowhere. Some guys, when they have leadership roles, simply become better players. Good on him.

The fact the playoffs are still going and there is no need or rush to name a captain until the season begins.
Most teams would name a new captain in August/September

if he couldn't be captain on toronto - with a team full of followers - heck their not even followers - then he's not captain on a respectable team like CB

You obviously haven't followed the Jackets.

They haven't had a captain since April 2012. They had plenty of time to think about who they wanted. They didn't just get rid of Rick Nash and decide to rush into naming a captain.

Super happy for him and great move for the BJ. Looking back at the trade we did, I don't remember seeing a trade that is this much win win.

Very glad for #71.

Now who is the D-man, or who are the D-men coming to CBUS? That is the only question that matters in the off-season.

Thanks for re-stating my point exactly.
Why name a captain in mid May when your team hasn't played for a month and a half... and have not had a Captain for over a season?! It could have easily waited til August/September.
Does it help to drive season tickets? No. Does it make a difference at the draft? No. Will it attract free agents by doing it now? No. So why now and not after the postseason wrapped up?

Sir,

Why not? If they name the Captain before or during training camp it doesn't matter either. Nothing that you stated as a reason to wait will change by delaying the naming, because after getting a little buzz in Columbus when he was named it doesn't matter to anyone but a handful of fanatical CBJ fans.

The "A's" will supposedly be named during camp, but it's obvious to me the HC and FO already know who they will be.

The only questions that matter for this team are:

1. What top pairing defenseman do they get, and what current defenseman leaves the team or roster?
2. Who gets traded to get the D-men the team supposedly needs?
3. Who in an overloaded forward corps gets put on the team, sent to the AHL, traded, or released?
4. Will Boll, Clarkson, Tropp, and Letestu be released, bought out, sent to the AHL, or not resigned?
